Nagayama Park is your typical Japanese park equipped for fitness, fun and leisure!
In early May this Nagayama park comes alive with fragrant blossoms that surround the fountain pond and it is an absolutely beautiful and a relaxing place to come and enjoy Japan!
This park is different than the big parks around Yamaguchi Prefecture, but it is one of our favorites! It doesn’t take long to get here, so we often take a picnic lunch or even dinner and enjoy an afternoon there.
There are a lot of trees around the outside of the park that provide a good balance of shade and sunshine. There is a walking path that goes around the park, where you’ll often see locals exercising.
Royce loves riding his bike here! The path around the park and the few grassy hills on the inside of the walkway have shortened his learning curve on the balance bike. They are big enough to give him a little push but gentle enough giving him confidence to be able to ride!
Nagayama Park Location:
You can easily pack a picnic and walk to Nagayama Park in 25 minutes from MCAS Iwakuni – or you can make it a quick 10 minute drive! This park is so peaceful. There is a path that goes around the park with several benches along it that are seated below cherry trees. During sakura season, some locals will come here instead of going to the Kintaikyo to set up blankets and enjoy the blossoms!
In the center of the park is a pond with a fountain. There are several koi fish and some turtles that the kids love to watch. They will even sneak some of their lunch for them! There is a nice open area to play catch, frisbee or even capture the flag!
If you forget your lunch there is a Family Mart just down the street! Take a look at our map to see some of the other must see attractions in the area, including the White Snake Temple (right around the corner)!
Here is a view of the parking area!
- There is only one swing and one slide.
7/10 A change of pace!
